Created in 1921 by Gabrielle Chanel and perfumer Ernest Beaux, N°5 was a visionary, avant-garde fragrance — an abstract scent in an era of single-note florals. In 2008, Jacques Polge, the Chanel perfumer at the time, reinterpreted his predecessor's radical composition by approaching N°5 from a new angle, revealing its hidden side: EAU PREMIÈRE, a light, airy, luminous version of the now and forever fragrance.

Not the same

I didn't realize the scent had changed that drastically from my previous two bottles. It's not a bad scent. But it definitely isn't my signature scent I've been using since 2009. This updated scent has much more rose and jasmine tones whereas the original was a lighter, powdery fresh scent.

Refreshing and Modern Take on an old Favorite

I own and use the original No. 5 fragrance created in 1921 and wear it on special occasions. When I saw the Premier version come out in the mid 2000's I was excited to try it to see how Chanel could possibly improve what was already perfect. This has become my favorite scent. While I could definitely detect the original 1921 scent, it also brought to it other notes that gave it a more modern, fresher and original take to our 1921 parent scent. Dare I also say in my case, I found it lasted longer than the original? I wouldn't part with either of these scents, but Premier is a scent I actually find myself using on an almost daily basis with loads of compliments. Thank you for creating another masterpiece!

Close but not the same

Not the same as the perfume but nice clean scent. Same with the spray version. Prefer the real deal
