Shakespeare's famous comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, gets a modern retelling in a lighthearted women's fiction novel that proves 'the course of true love' and the merging of families, for that matter 'never did run smooth. ' Helena's a "fly by the seat of her pants" kind of girl. Amelia's got her perfect life planned down to the minute. How will they ever get through their parents' wedding let alone a life as stepsisters without ripping each other apart Twenty-seven-year-old Helena Crosby is over her mom Nora's wedding and it hasn't even happened yet. For months, Helena's been dreading the day she and Nora would become part of The Perfects, aka the Maddox family, led by oldest perfect daughter Amelia. Her complete opposite in every way, Amelia owns a house, runs her father's architecture firm, and is engaged to her also perfect and dreamy fiancé acute Gage, all before the age of thirty. Helena has no idea how she's going to fit into this family with their fancy traditions and strict timetables. Thankfully, her best friend Landon is joining the festivities as her emotional support plus one and the perfect buffer between her and her new family. Amelia Maddox has spent months planning the perfect wedding week for her dad Steve and his bride-to-be Nora. She'd planned for every consistency except for her new free spirited stepsister's deadly shellfish allergy, her brother's insistence on.

Easy, quick read

This story was a cute adaptation of ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’. It was well written and easy to ready, just not my preferred style/genre of writing. It reads a lot like a Lifetime/Hallmark/PG rom-com. I would recommend this book to readers who prefer lighthearted love stories or an easy quick read.

Would recommend

This book was one that I personally did not gel with as much as I thought I would. A midsummer nights dream is my favourite shakespeare play but unfortunately I couldn’t connect to the characters and the romances did not convince me. I don’t think it is the book or authors fault, just my personal preference. There are a lot of people who would really enjoy this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I thoroughly enjoyed It's All Relative! It was exactly what I was in the mood for. Rachel Magee weaves a wonderful story of a newly blended family, with all the complicated feelings and history that come along with them. The strong bonds of family, finding love, purpose, and second chances made this a wonderful read. I enjoyed the twists and turns of this fun romantic comedy! “It was the right thing to do. And doing the right thing always trumps doing the easy thing.” I enjoyed the characters, bubbly, spontaneous Helena Crosby is on her way to be in her mom's wedding. The daughter of the groom, Amelia Maddox tries her hardest to keep her family and everything under control since her mom died. Landon accompanies his best friend Helena to the wedding, and Gage is engaged to Amelia. Amelia's siblings add a lot of personality to the story too! I highly recommend this sweet story that hit all the right notes for me! It was the perfect escape reading for me, I enjoyed every moment! Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read an ecopy. All opinions are my own.

Blending Families Is Difficult

It’s All Relative by Rachel Magee is one of those books that makes you look for other books written by the same author. Helena and Landon teach in the same high school. They are best friends. Helena’s never-married mother, Nora, is marrying Steve. Helena calls Steve and his children The Perfects. The wedding is set to take place on a fairly private island where Steve owns a family vacation home. Helena persuades Landon to accompany her to the weeklong festivities. Although Helena is happy for Nora, she wants someone on her side. The story weaves between different characters. People are intertwined in unexpected ways. Although it would be easy to say that the ending was predictable, the characters and experiences keep things moving. I will definitely be looking for more Rachel Magee books.

cute hallmark romcom

(3.75/5 stars) It's All Relative by Rachel Magee is a cute Hallmark-style reimagining of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream set around a big family wedding. I borrowed the audiobook from my local library and followed along with my physical copy. Tanya Eby is always lovely to listen to. There are nods to the original story everywhere, from one of the MCs being named Helena to a cockatoo named Titania. I also liked the nod to Robin Goodfellow as well. If you're looking for a sweet romance with very low spice levels, or if you like Shakespeare reimaginings, pick this up! I received a complimentary review copy from Thomas Nelson and BiblioLifestyle. All opinions contained herein are my own.

Family magic

A perfect story about the imperfections of families and the way the interactions between all the members finally makes them a really cool place to be. Helena’s mother is marrying Steve, father of two daughters, Amelia being the oldest and perfect, and and a son. Helena’s and Amelia can’t be more different but are they really? During the week leading to the wedding they will realise they have in common that they think and that this is their chance at a great new family. A great story about second chances, family, friendship and so much more. The audiobook with Tanya Ebu and Thomas Nelson makes a great story an even better one.

Family Dynamics At Work!

Helena Crosby teaches high school English Literature in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her best friend, Landon Blake, teaches American History and coaches soccer. When they first met, they dated a few times, but soon realized that they were only ever going to be friends. As the school year is almost over, the summer awaits them. Helena asks Landon to be her Plus One at her mother’s wedding. At first hesitant, Landon agrees. The wedding is going to be held at the groom’s family home on Indigo Island in Florida. As Helena has always referred to her mother’s fiancé’s family at the Perfects he doesn’t know their real name until they arrive. That’s when Landon realizes that a daughter Helena refers to as Amelia is realiy Mia, the woman he loved and lost some years ago and whom he still loves. Amelia is engaged to Gage who Helena has secretly admired. Helena feels that with her mother marrying into this big family, she is being pushed out and doesn’t necessarily care for the family members. Her mother wants her to just do all she can to join in with the family. Thus, we see a lot of family dynamics as they all go through a week of festivities in preparation for the wedding. Some of Helena’s actions are juvenile and silly but there are good parts of the story that I enjoyed especially when Helena finally realizes that they all need to work together to become one big family. This is a clever story with lots of lovely descriptions of the summer in Florida. As I live in Florida too, I found this quite special. A good story of give and take within a family. Enjoy! Delightful & fun read

What a fun read. A romantic comedy that tugs at your heart and makes you realize that family is really all that matters in life even if that family is a blended family. Helena's mother is getting married to the love of her life. No it is not her father whoever that may be. Nora raised Helena as a single mom and she never lacked for anything and always had tons of love. Steve, groom has a son Peter, and two daughters. Amelia is Helena's age and Emory is entering her teenage years. Helena always wanted siblings and is excited to meet them but also a tad bit jealous of all the time and planning Amelia and her mom have shared planning the wedding. Amelia is a control freak who makes lists upon lists and double checks everything with perfection as the goal. Langdon is Helena's best friend and he is coming as her plus one. They tried to have a relationship but it just wasn't in the cards because he still harbors feelings for and ex-girlfriend named Mia. Amelia is engages to Gage who is a hunk of a guy but she really doesn't have much chemistry with him. They are more like friends who are getting married. So that sets the stage for this great story about blending families. There is some drama, laughter, tears but most of all there is love. It is a great light read. Thanks to #netgalley, #thomasnelsonfiction and @rachelmageeauthor for an ARC of this great read.
