To have or not to have substantative customer serv

I bought my wife this green dress for our anniversary. Unfortunately, my wife discovered that the zipper was installed improperly leaving a smallong opening. It’s a beautiful dress, but no one at Macy's or the third-party supplier bothered to offer a solution. Why do consumers continue to buy from retailers who don't offer TRUE customer service?
