I couldn't put it down!

Nina thinks all of her dreams have come true. She has a handsome, wealthy smart husband, a beautiful house, teenage son on his way to Princeton. One night her son made a mistake, thinking it was a silly prank and her whole like starts to unravel and begins to shatter. She starts to find out that she's been lied to by the men in her life and starts to take a strong look at her lifestyle. She starts to see that maybe this life isn't what she always wanted. This book was so good, I couldn't put it down. The characters we well thought out and the story moved at a fast pace, with some surprises thrown in!

The perils of social media!

First Giffin book for me and it did not disappoint! As a mom of teenagers, the topic of social media is so important. Giffin does a great job of narrating from three perspectives: Nina (small town woman who marries into Nashville elite), Tom (single dad trying to raise his strong-willed daughter), and Lyla (the daughter who works hard and earns a scholarship to the elite prep Windsor Academy). These two families and a host of other characters intersect when one photograph is snapped at a high school party and shared online. The story is believable and characters, while flawed, are relatable. There are a lot of difficult issues throughout: bigotry, classism, rape, societal/personal values, troubled marriages, sexting, teenage drinking, bullying, etc. Nicely paced read, but also one that may cause you to pause and reflect - what would I do in this situation.

Timely

I honestly cannot decide how I feel about this book. I've always enjoyed Emily Giffin novels as quick beach reads or a reprieve from a dark mystery or thriller. While I still enjoyed the book from start to finish, I found myself unable to decide if it was predictable or not given the major story line. That said, I found the story to be timely given recent societal movements for women and the stronger voice that women have today. I found equally compelling the interwoven relational stories for the different character sets. From the teen friends and boyfriend/girlfriend dynamics to the marital struggles, Giffin expertly weaves together a story that pulls at the plights of relationships from all ages and experiences.

Giffin Is a Must Read

Wow; a page-turner; a heart-stopper; and an overall great story that I couldn't seem to put down. I was entranced by the story of Lyla and Nina and Tom. At times I was revolted by the ways that things had happened with Lyla and then there were times that my heart broke for Nina and Tom. This book makes you see things from a perspective that you hope you will never have to live out either as a daughter, a son, a wife, a mother, a father or friend and at the same time leaves you wishing there was much more to read about. Although you will hate the characters at times, Giffin does a great job of weaving all of their lives together and giving you a glimpse at how we are much more connected to one another than ever before. This is a must read!
