The Original and The Best!

Overall, a very high quality tool that works perfectly and with the right know-how is easy to clean (food stains- use sodium bicarbonate and water, hard water stains/rainbow stains- use white vinegar). Once you get used to the little bit of extra attention to detail in cleaning and preheating required- it becomes very much all part of the fun. I cannot speak for the D3 line, but this D5 pan retains heat extremely well and is very easy to control. You'd really have to be doing something wrong to burn anything in this pan. It puts the most beautiful crust on meat and fish and makes it easy to estimate when meat is cooked or ready to flip. Adding meat into the pan, initially it will stick- but after a few minutes, giving the pan a shake, it will release fully- essentially telling you when the food is ready to be flipped! Education is everything with these pans, and once you learn, they really do make you much more involved in the cooking process and aware of the underlying science of it. The 12 inch pan is the perfect size for up to 3 large steaks/chicken breasts, with high enough sides to create beautiful pan sauces with ease. The angle at which the sides meet the cooking surface make the pan perfect for tossing when sautéing, yet keeping space in the pan maximised. I like the design of the handle, but like others, I too have found it a little awkward to get a comfortable grip. It's best to try to use a palm-up grip. Once you do, it becomes very controllable and in my opinion, the way these handles were designed to be held. The brushed finish is very beautiful and will age better than the polished finish- likely turning satin after years of use. Be aware this is a heavy pan! To me, that means quality and durability and makes it feel all-the-more special to use, but others may struggle with the weight and the heat-controlability benefits of extra steel layer in the core may not be worth the weight. It comes in a large box that you won't want to throw away. Yes, it's expensive, but that's the cost of owning the best!

D5 fry pan quick review

Once you get over the learning curve, these are extremely well built, versatile, high performing pans. Thus far have cooked a range of foods on this pan from eggs (no sticking issues) and steaks (perfect browning). Expensive cookware but you really do pay for what you get in this case.

Everything Sticks

Neither of the pans are easy to cook in. EVERY THING we COOK STICKS TO THE PANS!!!! Both or the pans need scrubbing ever time it's used. Turns out to be a lousy gift for my husband.

Hello Mufasa, We are very sorry to learn you are experiencing difficulties while using your cookware. To prevent foods from sticking to your stainless steel cookware, we recommend cooking on a medium to low heat setting. Allow your pan to fully preheat before adding foods. Additionally, we would recommend cooking with a form of fat such as butter or oil. Be sure to use enough fat to cover the entire cooking surface of your vessel. Solid Pan!

Works great! However upon 1st use it has developed a permanent large brown spot just when heating up without having placed anything in.

Need more help with cleaning instructions.

I thought a stainless steel pan was safe to use with metal utensils. I used my metal fish spatula and it scratched the pan. I also couldn't clean it completely. There were still spots (but of course, no food) on the bottom of the pan. I tried dish soap and a sponge, then I tried ceramic cooktop cleaner, which is not supposed to scratch, and the pan still doesn't look shiny and new any more.

Hello Debra, We are very sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties when cleaning your pan. Some stains and food remains may take more care to remove. For discoloration, like blue or rainbow coloring, we would recommend wiping the pan with a sponge or soft cloth and white vinegar. For cloudy white hard water spots we would recommend, boiling a 1:1 white vinegar to water solution. Lastly, for tough to clean spots or marks, like burnt fat, protein shadows and charred food, we would recommend cleaning with a nonabrasive, non-chlorine cleanser, like All-Clad cookware cleaner, Bar Keeper's Friend or Bon Ami. When using these cleaners, we would suggest forming a paste with the cleanser and a small amount of water. Then, apply the paste using a soft cloth or sponge, rubbing in a circular motion. Finally, rinse with warm water and dry immediately and repeat if needed. If you would like further assistance with this issue, please feel free to contact our customer service team directly through our website at https://www.all-clad.com/contact or by phone at 1-800-255-2523. We apologize for the inconvenience!
