Nice, but worth it?

Bought this pan because I couldn't buy just a single 8" Calphalon Signature to match what I already own, and just "needed" another 8". Very similar with the All-Clad weighing 775 grams and the Calphalon at 672 but I think that difference maybe the All-Clad handle. The Calphalon handle is attached with 3 rivets while the All-Clad has 2, not that it likely matters on an 8" fry pan. Both have lifetime guarantee, both 5 ply and both very well made. Both heated 100 ml of water to a boil on my induction cooktop within seconds of each other. Is the All-Clad logo worth it? I'm not sure.

The Original and The Best!

Overall, a very high quality tool that works perfectly and with the right know-how is easy to clean (food stains- use sodium bicarbonate and water, hard water stains/rainbow stains- use white vinegar). Once you get used to the little bit of extra attention to detail in cleaning and preheating required- it becomes very much all part of the fun. I cannot speak for the D3 line, but this D5 pan retains heat extremely well and is very easy to control. You'd really have to be doing something wrong to burn anything in this pan. It puts the most beautiful crust on meat and fish and makes it easy to estimate when meat is cooked or ready to flip. Adding meat into the pan, initially it will stick- but after a few minutes, giving the pan a shake, it will release fully- essentially telling you when the food is ready to be flipped! Education is everything with these pans, and once you learn, they really do make you much more involved in the cooking process and aware of the underlying science of it. The 12 inch pan is the perfect size for up to 3 large steaks/chicken breasts, with high enough sides to create beautiful pan sauces with ease. The angle at which the sides meet the cooking surface make the pan perfect for tossing when sautéing, yet keeping space in the pan maximised. I like the design of the handle, but like others, I too have found it a little awkward to get a comfortable grip. It's best to try to use a palm-up grip. Once you do, it becomes very controllable and in my opinion, the way these handles were designed to be held. The brushed finish is very beautiful and will age better than the polished finish- likely turning satin after years of use. Be aware this is a heavy pan! To me, that means quality and durability and makes it feel all-the-more special to use, but others may struggle with the weight and the heat-controlability benefits of extra steel layer in the core may not be worth the weight. It comes in a large box that you won't want to throw away. Yes, it's expensive, but that's the cost of owning the best!

D5 fry pan quick review

Once you get over the learning curve, these are extremely well built, versatile, high performing pans. Thus far have cooked a range of foods on this pan from eggs (no sticking issues) and steaks (perfect browning). Expensive cookware but you really do pay for what you get in this case.

I love my D5 for perfectly seared steaks!

I've never owned a stainless pan before, but my favorite chef uses All-Clad D5, so I thought I'd give it a try. I love it! I don't grill my steaks anymore. I love the sear I get from my D5.

Exceptional Product

Exceptional quality. These are great on our gas stove. Very uniform heat. My only complaint is the slow processing time. But the site does specifically give expected processing times. Will definitely order like products!
