THE BIBLE RECAP

The Bible Recap is a Bible reading plan that will help you understand what you are reading. Reading Scripture can be confusing or even boring at times. We need help. This book is a one year guide that will take you through the entire Bible in chronological order. The author is Tara-Leigh cobble. She is the creator and host of The Bible Recap podcast and the founder of D-Group, an international network of weekly discipleship and accountability groups. She also hosts a daily radio show called The God Shot. This Bible reading plan explains and connects the story of Scripture, section by section. You don't have to go to seminary or need a special Bible. Just start reading this book alongside your Bible. It starts with Day 1 - Genesis 1-3 and continues to Day 365 - Revelation 19-22. This is a big book! After you read the day's Bible chapters, you come back to the book to get a summary and highlight reel along with some explanations of the more confusing parts of the text. This will provide on overview of what you have read. I was a Senior Minister for forty-seven years. I have a Master's Degree from a Christian University. I have studied the Scriptures for many years and have a huge library. I am finding The Bible Recap to be interesting and helpful. I think you will too. Tara-Leigh Cobble did not go to seminary but she is a serious student of the Scriptures. She has insights that I had not seen or thought of. If you have always wanted to read through the Bible this book will help you

SIMPLIFIED CHRONO BIBLE DEVOTIONAL

“Following a chronological Bible reading plan, these recaps explain and connect the story of Scripture, section by section,” states the back jacket in Tara-Leigh Cobble’s book, The Bible Recap: A One-Year Guide to Reading and Understanding the Entire Bible. ~ What ~ This seven-hundred-and-fifty-two-page hardbound targets those who want a short daily explanation that can be read in conjunction with the Bible every day of the year. Using mainly the English Standard Version of The Holy Bible, the LEB, NASB, and NLT versions are also referenced. While the beginning has a letter from the author with instructions on how to use the book, the ending has acknowledgments and the writer’s biography. Arranged in chronological order to the Word of God, this daily devotional summarizes what is read in the Bible each day and a short reminder of how God’s attributes were displayed during that section. Each day’s reading covers two pages, with the required reading listed, several paragraphs recapturing the topic, and a “Today’s God Shot” paragraph that is a current-day application. ~ Why ~ I have been reading through The Bible yearly for decades and most often read it in chronological order as it is my favorite format. I like that this devotional is set up to my personal liking and seems to only concentrate on summarizing the reading, not adding to its contents. I like that the day’s reading is short and to the point so does not supersede reading God’s Word. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not understand how His Word is so important and should be read daily. Others may not like the Bible versions used or that the devotions are written by a young woman. Some who are more scholarly may not glean any new information in it, but the devotional is a good reminder of the Lord and what He has done throughout history. With the book covering the entire Bible over a full year, it is somewhat rudimentary in content. ~ Wish ~ I wish an added one or two-sentence prayer was included. I prefer the recaps were not so simplified; for example, in my today’s reading of Numbers 1 and 2, the devotion did not mention any of the vast numbers of Israelites or that their campground covered approximately twelve square miles, which was noted in my King James Life Application Study Bible. ~ Want ~ If you are looking for a beginner’s devotional that summarizes The Bible if read chronologically over a year, this is a good source if you do not mind it being simple and written by a young woman. Thanks to Bethany House for this complimentary book that I am freely reviewing.

Excellent Daily Devotional

What a truly timely, ambitious, and successful book! I absolutely loved it! (I read much of it and skimmed through the rest, as it is meant to be read in a year.) I love her questions at the beginning and her discussions about "how to really read the Bible". I love the way she organized the book to enable you to read chapters that really go together, and the way she ended each reading with something about God's character or a takeaway for real life. If you are at all hesitant to get this book, just go for it. I will be using it for some of my daily devotionals as well as for a "through the Bible in one year" guide. I received a free ARC as a reviewer for NetGalley, but I am considering buying a hard copy as well.

Outstanding

I wasn't expecting this book to be set up as blueprint, but it was a welcomed treat. It's a daily plan, you get the reading for the day and unlike a Genesis to Revelation reading this one is chronological. (as it happened in Scripture) I LOVED this. For example after Genesis 8-11, we find ourselves in the book of Job chapter 1-5. Cool right? Cobble suggest that you read the days Scripture in your Bible then return to this book to get a highlight or summary of what you read, to help with clarity. Being able to return to this book was a blessing to me, a bonus for me was "Today's God Shot" this is where you will have the opportunity to SEE God's character in that Scripture you read for the day. Every Bible student should have a copy of this book on hand when reading and studying.

An amazing resource!

If you ever read your Bible and then immediately wonder, "What did I just read?" this is the book for you! Each day, you'll read 2-3 chapters of a chronological Bible reading plan, and then read a short explanation of what you read. Tara-Leigh Cobble offers insight into the historical context of the events, translation of the original language, and other interesting info--all easy to understand without a theology degree! I'm so grateful for this resource and the impact it's had on my life. I've gotten to know my God and the history of my faith on a deeper level this year, and can't say enough good things about this resource.

A great Bible study resource

I have listened to the BibleRecap podcast this year and it has been an immense help in understanding all parts of the Bible, but especially the hard parts of the Old Testament. I love it when there’s a tid-bit of information in one section, and then she ties it together further down the pike in another section of the Bible! Now having the book, if I happen to be reading a section that we covered 6 months ago on the podcast, now I can just flip through the book and re-read it again!! It’s a great resource to your Bible Study!

A multi-talented Bible reading plan

A difficult book to classify - one might call it a Devotional, a Bible Reading Plan, a Chronological Bible, or a Bible Commentary. It is actually a bit of all three. The author has taken the Bible and divided it into 365 daily readings in Chronological order. The reader will need to have their favorite Bible handy, the text of the Scriptures are not included in this book. Along with each daily reading is a brief commentary helping the reader understand the underlying text. The day’s reading concludes with a devotional thought (called “Today’s God Shot”) suggesting how the reading might be applied in a believer’s life. Picking up this book makes this reader want to start (better, restart) a plan to read through the Bible next year. Actually, the reader can start anytime - The 365 daily sections are numbered - not dated. An individual could easily use the book as a guide through the scriptures or a small group could use it as a jumping-off point for a year-long walk through the Word of God. A local church could use it as a Christmas gift for its members as they seek to study the Scriptures together. ______________ This review is based on a free electronic copy provided by the publisher for the purpose of creating this review.
