Loft Beds

When you’re shopping for kid’s bedroom furniture, you have lots of choices. Yes, you’ll need to pick a color or theme. But there’s also an option for their bedroom that you might not have considered yet: a loft bed. These elevated beds are high enough for privacy but low enough for a child to enter and exit easily. But the main reason for choosing a loft bed is that it opens up more floor space in your child’s bedroom.

Bunk Beds vs. Loft Beds
What’s the difference between a bunk and a loft bed? Bunk beds are two beds stacked on top of each other. Bunks provide two separate sleeping areas but take up the space of one. Loft beds, however, have a single bed raised off the ground. The space below is used for other things, like extra storage or a desk. Like most kids’ beds, bunk beds and loft beds usually fit twin-size mattresses. While a twin loft bed is the most common option, a full loft bed isn’t unheard of. If you’re furnishing a kids’ room for a growing preteen or teen, look for youth loft beds that can accommodate twin XL mattresses instead.

Choose a Style That Suits
Choose from several fun variations on the loft bed depending on your child's age, preferences, and specific needs. Many parents go with the classic stair loft bed. However, slides for loft beds turn morning wake-ups into a playground-worthy experience. Do you host sleepovers frequently? A trundle loft bed offers a convenient extra sleeping spot when friends stay for the night. Older children will appreciate the private workspace that a loft bed with a desk provides. It’s helpful when doing homework, of course. But it also makes a great place to pursue art projects, reading, quiet time, or solitary play activities.
