What Are Cellular Shades? Cellular shades are a type of window covering used to filter (or completely block out) light and insulate windows to save energy. The cell shade size can vary—these light filtering shades come in single cell, double cell or triple cell and all available options provide great insulation. The cell shapes hold trapped air to create a barrier between the window surface and the room. Cellular shades are also commonly known as honeycomb shades due to the honeycomb design when looking at them from the side.
