How to Clean a Rug
You've done your research, measured your space and picked the materials you want. What's next for your new rug? Caring for it! Here are some things to remember.
Shop Area RugsRegular Maintenance & Storage
Keep your rugs in tip-top shape with the proper upkeep.
SHAKE IT
- Shake or vacuum both sides of your rug regularly.
- Rotating it every six months will prevent uneven wear from foot traffic & furniture weight.
CLEAN IT
- Clean spills immediately by blotting the affected area.
- Be sure not to wipe or rub the spills, as this may worsen the stain and fray the yarns.
- To prevent damage & permanent staining, call a professional if the stain cannot be removed with water and gentle dabbing alone.
STORE IT
- When storing, roll up the rug with the pattern facing in.
- Place it in a dry, well-ventilated space.
- For extra protection, wrap the rug in a breathable cloth rather than an airtight bag.
PROTECT IT
- If possible, keep your rug out of direct sunlight, which can cause some rugs to fade.
- Accidents happen. With Macy's WORRYNOMORE® Rug Protection Plan, you can rest easy knowing your rug will be protected for years to come.
Rug Pads
Not just for slippage, a rug pad can help preserve the life of your rug.
- A high-quality rug pad adds comfort & protection against everyday wear by providing a soft, supportive foundation that keeps the rug in place.
- Most rug pads can also be cut with scissors to match the exact size and shape of your rug.
